Dennis Broadwell • Director / Alpine Guide

Dennis has professionally mountain guided since 1997 and has nearly 25 years
of climbing experience. His passion for mountains and exploration has led him
to climb and travel all over the world. In 1993 he worked as a volunteer in
Nepal where he discovered his love of foreign cultures while helping the Nepalese
people. He’s worked for many well respected guide services including ice guiding
in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, on Mount Rainier for RMI and in the North
Cascades. His expedition experience includes Mount Everest in Nepal, Cho Oyu
in Tibet, Ama Dablam in Nepal, Alpamayo in Peru, Mount McKinley in Alaska,
Aconcagua in Argentina, Elbrus in Russia, Kilimanjaro in Africa as well
as many peaks in Nepal and major mountain ranges of the United States.
Craig Van Hoy • AMGA Certified Alpine Guide

Craig is recognized as one of the finest mountain guides in the world. He has
over 400 summits of Mount Rainier by 19 different routes. In 1989 he reached
the summit of Kangchenjunga as part of the first American ascent. 8568 meter
Kangchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world. Craig has participated
on three expeditions to Mount Everest, two via the Northridge and one from the
South Col which led to a successful summit in 2004. Craig has also summited
the “Seven Summits”. As a year-round guide he leads our Northwest Climbs as
well as expeditions to Aconcagua and the to Mexican Volcanoes.

Brian Houle • Alpine Guide

Originally from North Dakota, Brian grew up hunting, fishing, and spending
much of his time outdoors. He graduated from Minnesota State University in
Anthropology, and worked for a number of years as a field archaeologist.
The transition from archaeology to guiding came slowly, and eventually he
found himself immersed in a two-year guide training program. After completing
this program he took a position with Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures
based in Northern Thailand. After 4 years of guiding and working in the
tropics he returned to the U.S. and began guiding full time both domestically
and internationally.

Sam Tyler • Alpine Guide

Sam is an excellent instructor and has lots of energy. His experience ranges
from Ice guiding in New England to Expedition peaks around the Earth. He holds
ascents of Mount Rainier, Mount Whitney, Mount Hood, Mount Washington as well
as expedition peaks like Cerro Aconcagua in Argentina, Peaks of the Alaska Range,
Ama Dablam, Island Peak and Lobuche Peaks in Nepal. Sam also spends most of his
year guiding ice and rock routes in places like Valdez Alaska, Ouray Colorado,
Arcadia Maine, New Hampshire’s White Mountains and the Sierra Mountains.
Matt Schonwald • Alpine Guide

Matt is a certified Ski-Mountaineering Guide with the AMGA and an AIARE
avalanche safety instructor dedicated to perfecting his craft. He began
his professional ski career in 1993 as a ski instructor and let his curiosity
for steep wild places lead him to a full time career as professional
mountain guide. Matt began skiing and alpine racing in New York’s Catskill
mountains Matt found a way to combine his passion for travel, wild snow
and big mountains by guiding trekking, climbing, skiing and making connections
across cultural and linguistic divides around the globe in Antarctica, Europe,
Asia, North & South America.
Morgan Miller • Alpine Guide (In remembrance)

Morgan is from the woods of Michigan, where adventuring with hunting
rifles &fishing rods eventually gave way to backpacks, skis & climbing
ropes. A recreation management graduate from Michigan State University,
he has been on a 14+ year adventure as a professional outdoor educator,
ski & climbing instructor, and mountain guide with professional certifications
and training in climbing & skiing instruction, wilderness medicine, and
avalanche safety. His professional passion is helping his guests and students
accomplish their mountain dreams while living and moving with
style in the mountains.
Dan Windham • Alpine Guide
Northwest Climbs • International Guide
Dan Windham, born in the Georgia hills, began backpacking at an
early age on the Appalachian Trail, where he discovered his passion for
the mountains. Having moved to northern Italy, become a mountain guide
and run a mountain hut with his Italian wife, he has returned (via a
couple of years in Costa Rica) to his roots, enjoying the outdoor life
with his family. Having climbed and guided on some of the highest peaks
in the Himalayas and the Americas (notably Mt. Rainier), Dan continues
to guide on Aconcagua (Argentina) and as well as peaks around the globe.

Phurba Namgyal Sherpa • Alpine Guide
Everest Region • Nepal
Phurba is from the Rolwaling region of Nepal, and began working as a trekking and
climbing guide in 2001. In 2011 he became a certified IFMGA Mountain Guide
and received his Mountain Guide diploma with the Nepal National Mountain Guide
Association (NMGA). Phurba has guided over 10 expeditions on both the South
and Northsides of Mount Everest and holds multiple summits as well as summits of
Cho Oyu and many other peaks in Nepal. Phurba has also climbed peaks in Germany,
Austria and the Swiss Alps. He attended college in Kathmandu and works as a
mountaineering guide instructor, teaching young Nepali’s climbing skills during
the off season.
Naga Dorjee Sherpa • Trekking Guide
Everest Region • Nepal
Naga is a native to the Khumbu Valley of Nepal where he lives with his wife and
two young daughters. As a Mountain Gurus trekking guide he has vast experience
within the Everest region as well as many other trekking regions of Nepal. Naga has
also traveled extensively in the United States and has a deep understanding of western
culture. His warm smile, sense of humor and confidence allows our trekkers to relax
and enjoy the experience while they are being led by one of the best. Naga’s
resume also includes climbs of many trekking peaks in Nepal such as Island Peak,
Mera Peak and Lobuche as well as Camp 2 on Mount Everest.
Tul Singh Gurung “Tulsi” Alpine Guide
Everest & Annapurna Region • Nepal
Tulsi is from the Gorkha region of Nepal, and began working as a trekking and
climbing guide in 2003. In 2012 he became a certified IFMGA Mountain Guide
and received his Mountain Guide diploma with the Nepal National Mountain Guide
Association (NMGA). Tulsi has summitted Everest twice and climbed Ama Dablam,
Cho Oyu, Mera Peak as well as many peaks in Nepal. Tulsi has also climbed peaks
in Russia, France and Italy, including Mont Blanc. He has traveled in China,
Tibet, France and Italy. He’s attended many advanced mountaineering courses,
first aid and high mountain rescue.
Julius Minja Trekking Guide
Mount Kilimanjaro • Tanzania
Julius is 53 years old and lives with his wife and four children (3 boys and 1 girl)
in Marangu Village near the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. He is part of the Chagga tribe
and has been guiding for 25 years. He has spent 2 years at the College of
African Wildlife Management in Mweka. Julius has climbed in both the United States
and United Kingdom where he completed Mountain Leadership Training.
Julius has summited Mount Kilimanjaro an astonishing 321 times!
Lama Babu Sherpa  Alpine Guide
Everest Region • Nepal
Lama is from the area below Lukla in the Solu Khumbu of Nepal. He is a certified
IFMGA Mountain Guide and received his Mountain Guide diploma with the Nepal
National Mountain Guide Association (NMGA). Lama has vast expedition experience
and knowledge in the Himalaya of Nepal, with many summits of Everest and other
8000 meter peaks. Lam has also climbed peaks in the French and Swiss Alps.
In the off season he teaches young Nepali Sherpa’s mountaineering training courses.
He resides in Kathmandu with his wife and two children.
Wayne Jackson • Treks Coordinator
Wayne is an experienced hiker and outdoorsman. He’s been backpacking the
Cascade mountains of the Pacific Northwest, the Sierra Nevada in California,
and the Southwestern Ranges for over 30 years. He’s also hiked most of the
Pacific Crest Trail as well as climbed on mountaineering peaks like Aconcagua
in Argentina, Mount Whitney, Mount Baker and Mount Adams. Wayne enjoys
traveling abroad and has extensive experience in Asia and Europe. His
strong organizational skills, leadership and knowledge help us coordinate
programs on Mountain Gurus board of directors. You may even find Wayne out
guiding in Nepal to Everest Base Camp or beyond.
Arnold Marick • Trekking Guide
Mount Kilimanjaro • Tanzania
Arnold is a professional mountain guide with over 150 ascents of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Our Tanzanian guides are native to Mount Kilimanjaro. Many like Arnold are from
the indigenous Chagga tribe. Arnold’s home is located on the foothills of the mountain
at Marangu village. He enjoys sharing his extensive knowledge and passion of
Tanzanian wildlife and culture. Arnold’s leadership skills, warm personality
and patient attitude make him an ideal guide on Mount Kilimanjaro and pleasure
to be around. He is certified in Wilderness First Aid.
Roman Demenko • Alpine and Ski Guide
Mount Elbrus • Russia
Roman has guided on the slopes of Mount Elbrus since 2008 with over forty ascents
of the mountain. As a climber and mountaineer he’s summited over 40 peaks in the
Caucasus Range. During the winter season he works as ski instructor and ski
mountaineering guide. Born in Tihoretsk, Russia he now lives with his wife and family
in the Krasnodar region. Roman has a good working knowledge of English and holds
a level C certification with the International Ski Instructors Association as well as
training in mountain tourism. His confident and patient guiding approach and
attention to mountain safety makes him an ideal guide on Elbrus.
Henry Moya • Alpine Guide
Ecuador • Peru • Bolivia
A certificated Ecuadorian Mountain Guide (ASEGUIM) since 2003. Henry has
climbed Cotopaxi around 200 times and the Chimborazo over 80 times, both
are Ecuador’s most famous mountains. Henry has also climbed all the volcanic
peaks in Ecuador by normal and technical routes. In 1998 Henry did a repeat
of the American line in El Altar. Henry has been part of many international
expeditions in Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. Henry is passionate about Andean
culture and is always searching for new places to explore in the Andean regions
Alfredo Chavez Villa • Alpine Guide
Mexico Volcanoes
Alfredo was born in Mexico City but moved to Hidalgo State, known as one of
the most important cities for the Mexican rock climbing scene. Alfredo also
guides in Peru and Argentina and are among his favorite climbing destinations.
When Alfredo is not guiding, he also works as instructor leader for Outward Bound
México, mostly with youth-at-risk courses in Mexico City. He is also an mountain
biking guide and spends his free time developing new routes throughout Mexico.
Sagar Poudyal • Nepal Logisitcs Coordinator
Sagar is a native to the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal where he lives with his
wife and two daughters. As a Mountain Gurus logisitcs coordinator he has
vast experience within the Everest region as well as many other trekking
regions of Nepal. Sagar has also traveled extensively in the United States
and has a deep understanding of western culture. His confident smile, allows
our Nepal trekkers to relax and know their in good hands.
Kili Sherpa • Director of Nepal Operations
Kili is a highly respected expedition organizer, leader and mountaineer,
based in Kathmandu. Kili handles all the Nepal and Tibet logistics for
our expeditions. He has organized over 150 expeditions in Nepal, Pakistan
and Tibet. As a climber he has participated in 8000 meter expeditions to;
Everest both Nepal and Tibet sides and Cho Oyu. Elsewhere, he’s led trips
to Ama Dablam, Kang Guru, Thamserku, and many other smaller peaks in Nepal.
Kili takes great pride in managing our world class ground operations; working
with our highly experienced team of Sherpa guides, expedition staff and porters.
Sherpa Guides • Nepal
Mountain Gurus has among the most experienced and dedicated Sherpa guides and expedition staff. Our Sherpa guides have
combined experience of no less than one hundred summits of Mount Everest, Cho Oyu and Ama Dablam. Their high altitude
experience and 8000 meter training is virtually unmatched to that of many non-Sherpa guides. Our Sherpa guides are native to the
Khumbu region of Nepal and their friendly, kind spirited and patient guiding approach not only instills confidence in our customers
but allows them know they are being guided by some of the best in the business. Their expedition experience includes 8000 meter
peaks as well as many smaller mountaineering peaks and treks in the Himalaya.
